Interventional radiology is a subspecialty within radiology where specialists use their imaging and technical skills to perform minimally invasive treatments for a range of conditions. Their extensive training in both image interpretation and interventional procedures ensures treatment is provided in the safest way possible, minimising pain and post-procedure recovery time.
Interventional neuroradiologists use minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat blood vessel conditions of the brain, head & neck and spine. Using endovascular techniques, the need for open surgery can often be avoided. Interventional neuroradiologists have completed extensive post-fellowship subspecialty training to ensure these procedures are performed in the safest way possible. Common conditions they treat include cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, arteriovenous fistulae as well as many other vascular diseases.
