Dr Ryan McConnell

INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGIST | SYDNEY

Dr Ryan McConnell is a Sydney-based Interventional Radiologist and Head of Department of Interventional Radiology at Northern Beaches Hospital. He also practises as a Consultant Interventional Radiologist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and as an Interventional Radiologist and Endovascular Specialist at the Mater Hospital, North Sydney.

Ryan performs approximately 1,500 interventional procedures each year across a broad range of vascular and non-vascular conditions. He has particular expertise in prostate artery embolisation (PAE), varicocele embolisation, pelvic venous disease, varicose veins and complex venous intervention.

He completed specialist radiology training and an Interventional Radiology fellowship at Royal North Shore Hospital, followed by a two-year fellowship in Interventional Neuroradiology. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR).

Ryan’s approach is centred on selecting the most appropriate treatment for each patient rather than intervention for its own sake. He discusses minimally invasive treatment alongside surgical and medical alternatives and works closely with referring GPs, urologists, gynaecologists, vascular surgeons and other specialists to provide coordinated care.

Where appropriate, interventional radiology can offer effective treatment through a small incision, often with less discomfort and a faster recovery than conventional surgery.
